The Lore of Wulfrum, Poker of the Hills

In the ancient land of Elaria, where the winds whispered untold secrets and the hills and mountains stood silently as sentinels to Time, there arose a warrior of indomitable spirit. His name was Wulfrum Poker of the Hills, for his wolf-like fierceness in battle reminded all of the ever-present shadow of death, while his kindness to the weak and his desire for justice gave him the distinct qualities of the raven. His name was in truth a tribute to Odin's companions - the wolf and the raven.

Of his parentage little is known other than that he was brought to the highlands by a maiden of high birth in exquisitely crafted clothing that belied her royal heritage. She came swiftly to a shepherd's cottage on a steed buoyed, so the tales said, by the mighty winds. She left her child in the care of the honest shepherd and his quick-thinking wife and as a gift left a spear and a shield that she called Fang Breaker. Legend has it that the spear was forged in the heart of a star and quenched in the icy depth of a melting glacier far to the North of the Kingdom .

Raised in the Highlands, Wulfrum had a peculiar attachment to the ancient hills around him. To him they were more than just rocks and stone. They lived and breathed, and the music that they made was as clear to him to him as birdsong was to a passerby in the hills on a bright still morning. Wulfrum was loved by all - old and young. He had solid instincts and a strategic mind but had little patience with words and long-winded arguments. he preferred to speak little and be always ready for action. He was quick to help those in distress and showed good humour when his peers joked about his mysterious heritage.

As Wulfrum's fame grew beyond Elaria, a small elite group of Viking chiefs arrived and recognised him as a fellow Viking warrior, presenting him with a horned helmet as a token of their recognition and respect. They also told him of Varrick, the bane of Elferend, the land in which Elaria was but a small village. They bade him wait for the arrival of a comet on the third month of the third year following their visit and then join them in the capital of Elferend with haste after that. For it was prophesied that Vikings would battle Varrick in a battle so magnificent that it would be remembered through the ages.

When the time came and the comet arrived, Wulfrum was ready with Fang Breaker and food and supplies for the journey ahead that his parents had prepared for him. Many friends and well-wishers from all over Elaria came to see him leave and wish him well,

A Battle of the Ages ensued between Varrick and the Vikings, and in vanquishing the fierce and evil chief commander of Varrick Wulfrum found fame and renown not only among those of his time but in posterity through legends and songs.
