Collecting the Core Set!

A little overdue, but I was finally able to collect the entire core set! 64 cards, each with a basic & alternative art type (so 128 in total), featuring some of the most prominent artists in and adjacent to the wizards cult and some of the most iconic figures in Forgotten Runes lore!

Each card has attributes - but the most prized are the lore blurbs which I love to read as I flip through my binder. Here are all of the cards!

Anyone who discovers it's location has a spell of silence cast on them so that they can never tell anyone where it is or what is there. Many try to find it in an attempt to best the curse, none have been able to tell the tale just yet.

Tech Junky

 

Lore: Blue mages have recently begun the development of headset technology the can augment reality, or even create a brand new virtual world. This is obviously nothing novel for wizards themselves, but for others this technology is revolutionary. The ability to amplify the environment around them or create brand new experiences has expanded the consciousness of the average Runizen. Unfortunately this technology has had the unintended consequence of causing some people become obsessed. Much like magic can corrupt the mind.. so can technology it seems.

Polarpuff

 

Lore: Polarpuffs are adorable, solitary creatures that inhabit the coldest corners of the Runiverse. With their round, fluffy bodies and bluish-white coloring, they are perfectly adapted to life on the ice. They get their name from the fact that when they feel threatened, they puff up to twice their size and begin floating like a balloon. As they inflate, hundreds of razor-sharp spines that were previously hidden under their dense fur come out, turning them into a giant pin-cushion. The spines that they sometimes shed are considered a great treasure for any wizard to find, as they are so sharp, they can be used for anything from weaponry to sewing.

Lazy Lumpus

 

Lore: The Lumpus is an animal that originated in forests of Hedge Wizard Wood, but can now be found exclusively in the hot springs located at the top of the mountains north of Dream Master Lake. Once the species found out about these pristine pools, they couldn't be bothered to constantly trek back & forth so they all unanimously agreed to relocate the species to the pools. That is where they picked up the qualifier “Lazy Lumpus“. Now you'll be hardpressed to find a spring without a lumpus soaking in the magnificent mineral-rich wombs of the earth.

Zapbender

 

Lore: Zapbenders are mysterious, fully aquatic creatures, named for their ability to emit bolts of electricity from their external gills. They use these electrical signals primarily to communicate with one another underwater in a light-based language, and are responsible for the frequent lightning flashes that can be seen in most freshwater habitats in the Runiverse (most notably, the Lake of Lanterns, where they have their largest population). While they are friendly and peaceful by nature, when threatened, they can produce a voltage high enough to seriously maim (even kill) a wizard. Very few zapbenders have ever been captured against their will, but when befriended, they can make for a powerful ally.

Lore: New to the cult & of the lowest rank in The Sevenths, they dedicate every waking moment of their life preparing for The Opening and spreading the gospel of their religion. They typically adopt a humble life and a job in public service - seeing as they live to prepare the Runiverse for their gods to grace them with their presence. This means cleaning the land, caring for the people, and welcoming new members to the cult.

Nonozoon

 

Lore: Villages all throughout The Wild tell children stories about Nonozoon, a notorious little spirit that sneaks out of The Fey at night and causes all kinds of mischief. There is no rhyme or reason to his attacks, although they are usually harmless like spilling garbage, turning signs upside-down, and teasing livestock. Every once in a while he is caught, but according to the stories he is so ridiculously cute that his captors immediately set him free.

Pack Slar

 

Lore: Slar are bulky four legged creatures that look like a cross between a Kobold and a Guerilla. While beastly looking creatures, they are quite tameable and have jokingly become the unofficial mascot of the Red Wizards. Specially trained to carry cargo - these slar can carry 10x their body weight if packed correctly and are just as common in the Red Wizard Capital as a person.

Lore: Robo Dogs are mechanical hounds that were created to serve as companions to warriors. They are incredibly loyal and possess advanced sensory systems that allow them to track and hunt down their targets with precision. They possess great strength and can withstand heavy damage in battle. Their metallic exteriors make them resistant to fire and electric attacks. These companionable creatures have a unique bond with their partners, and will go to any length to protect them.

Feyling

 

Lore: Saplings of The Forest Maker, Feylings grow from the ground that The Forest Maker has recently touched and are fed by moonlight like other plants are fed by sunlight. During full moons it's said that you can watch Feylings sprout out of the ground instantly as The Forest Maker roams The Fey.

Stumpy Goat Herder

 

Lore: These compact dogs assist their shepherd owners in the domestication of wild goats, specifically the Null Goat. They are bred to blend in with the herd and have superior night vision to assist in wrangling wandering goats during the night, and enjoy nipping goats’ heels to keep them in line. Their short stature gives them extra stability on steep mountain inclines and their stocky build and thick coats are resistant to inclement mountain weather. “Magic won’t budge a Null Goat, but a nip in the heels oughta do the trick!”

Lore: The somber glow of the Will-o'-wisp is the trademark greeting of the Vampyre Mist. They are a welcome guide through the thick haze, although their presence does more to remind the traveler of where they are than to help. And there are not many good reasons to be in the Vampyre Mist.

Lore: Wizards who have mastered a cult sub-genre of magic, rave magic. Although not recognized as a legitimate school of magic, party goers have refined a repertoire of spells that are particularly handy & fun in a festival setting. Magnificent light shows, healing spells that offset substances gone wrong, mass levitation, and others that can enhance the experience of one who partakes. Parties that have confirmed rave mage attendees are some of the most sought after in the Runiverse.

Abominable Snowmimic

 

Lore: Creatures made of snow that are able to change their own shape to imitate the appearance of other creatures. They're capable of mimicking a limited range of sounds and rely on deceiving their prey during snowstorms into drawing near snow puts they've created. They are incapable of changing their long orange noses, though can be clever enough to disguise them as tails or horns instead. Those lost in the north are warned to be cautious if they encounter another human calling for help, as it may be an Abominable Snowmimic tricking them into their demise.

Rookery Keeper

 

Lore: The only other requirement for those looking to become a keeper at Skylord Rookery besides natural parental instincts is an affinity with poop. Yes poop. With nests packed together on the top of rocky spikes that pierce the clouds, surface area is scarce and the squawking residents love to cover the spires with their droppings. But the work is fulfilling like none other. Skylord Rookery is a diverse urban habitat for hundreds species of birds and the job of Rookery Keeper is a privileged position only reserved for the most deserving Wizards & Warriors. These keepers play an important role in the lives of generations of the aviary population of the Runiverse. Among the ranks of keepers are skilled pilots who fly giant airships that ferry its inhabitants and caretakers to their destinations.

Dayserpent

 

Lore: Half eagle half snake, this chimeric relative of the cockatrice inhabits The Sand. They are a unique species because they can transition between being cold and warm blooded depending on their needs. They become warm blooded before flying great distances, and become cold blooded during droughts or the month-long sandstorms that sweep across The Sand. When cold blooded, they often bask in the sun and burrow into the sand for safety and energy conservation.

Lore: The Snapcat tends to roam, most of the time alone, throughout The Baobabs. They can be found to move about all levels of the forest, from the Emerging Layer to the Forest Floor. Most magic users can detect their true form with True Sight, Spirit Sight, and or Nature Sight. Without these spells or abilities they give off the appearance of a small black kitten.

Time once spent harvesting vital essence is now spent curating exquisite collections of books, art, music, antiques, and specimin. These collections are guarded by their creators like treasures worth ten times their weight in gold. Only very select beings who are part of lineages that have spent generations building trust with vampyres have been allowed to enjoy these vaults. Earning a vampyre's trust is not something that can be done in one lifetime.

Shroom Golem

 

Lore: The Toadstool tribes plant small mushroom totems made from stone in magical gardens in order to commemorate certain events and rites of passage. These magical gardens allow these totems to grow and eventually animate. The gentle giants roam the plains around the Toadstool communes mostly ignoring anyone they come into contact with, but if anything disturbs the meditative state of the area they will become... less passive.

Lore: The shroom shack is a restaurant established by alchemist duzzle the great-grandfather of pyromancer duzzle who is the current owner of The shroom shack. The shroom shack's menu consists solely of dishes made from and with mushrooms such as, Portobello ice cream, or White Button breakfast cereal. Canyon Wurm

 

Lore: Weaving through the areas around Honor Mountain are canyons as wide as cities & as deep as a wizard's thoughts. Some geologists think that these were created by things like erosion and tectonic shifts, but those who were here long before the birth of science know that these natural wonders were the product of colossal wurms that carved through the crust of the Runiverse. The wurms haven't been seen in centuries however, it is believed they have buried deep beneath the surface to hibernate in preparation for another carving.
